What Is My Purpose

Updated: Jan 12, 2023

what is my purpose

I get a lot of messages from people wanting to take their lives because they don't know their purpose. I also get a lot of people who say they want to take their life because their girlfriend or boyfriend left them, failed a test, not doing well in school, let their parents down, etc.

One reason for this is that they don't know their purpose. These are all valid reasons to feel emotional, but not to take your own life. If they knew and believed in their purpose, these reasons would just be emotions and not an idea to kill oneself. I understand that people have many reasons for wanting to kill themselves. I was once in the same place.

However, now that I know my purpose, I could never let anything get in the way of it.

My purpose is to help people so that it will have an eternal impact. I will never stop. Negative thoughts can not stop me because I fully believe in my purpose and the effect it has on people. I value other people more than I do my own life, so suicide could never be the answer.

I wanted to share a small piece of my purpose so you could see what it looks like in action. I am not the best writer or communicator, so I want to explain in a different way so you get my point. I created this website, among other things, with my own time and money because I am sold out for my purpose.

I value the results of my purpose more than time, money, and my own life. I still need balance and wisdom, but overall, this is how I feel on a daily basis about my purpose and calling.

I believe that everyone has a purpose, and you all can feel like I do.

Your purpose will not be exactly the same as mine, but I believe everyone was created to love one another, so your purpose should be in the category of helping people.

How Do You Find Your Purpose?

It took me many years to know and believe in my purpose, but ever since I was a small child, it was inside of me. I always cared about people when they were in deep sorrow or life changing circumstances. It wasn't until about 7 years ago that my purpose really unraveled itself in front of me. Even today, it is still being revealed to me.

I believe that my purpose and calling won't be fully revealed and complete until I die. I can know the overall idea and general purpose of my calling, but not the extent of it. So don't get discouraged if you don't have a clue what it is now.

Here are some general questions to ask yourself to get an idea of what your purpose or calling is.

  • What do you enjoy doing?

  • What are your gifts and talents?

  • What does your heart tell you?

  • Would you feel satisfied doing it for the rest of your life?

  • Would you do it for free and even put your own money into it?

  • Have you asked your friends and family what your purpose may be?

I can't tell you what your calling is and neither can anyone else. They can give you hints and ideas, but it is up to you to discern whether they are true or not.

But there is one person who can tell you what your calling is; his name is Yahweh. You can ask Him in the name of Jesus, and He will help you. Since He created you, He is the One that can Guide you in your true calling and purpose.

Just pray and ask. Then expect to receive an answer. It may or may not come immediately. It may or may not come in different forms through hearing something over and over through the TV, Internet, friends, family, billboards, etc. Either way, this will sit well with your spirit and be comforting. Your spirit will not sit right if it's not the truth.

Walk With Your Purpose

Once you find your purpose, you should act on it. You don't have to quit your job and go all in, but you should take some steps in that direction. You should also not neglect your loved ones or responsibilities to pursue it.

You have the rest of your life to follow it, so don't be in a rush or be impatient, but always keep taking steps towards it.

Your hope is in God and the path He has for you. Without hope, you won't be well.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
-Proverbs 13:12
