Be Careful Where you put your Trust

She was an excellent daughter, always pleasing her parents with precise obedience. She brought them joy and blessings. She trusted in them and the things they said, until her mother went to treatment and her father disappeared. Her world was shattered.

He was the best employee who dedicated 35 years of his life. He quickly raised the ranks of success by building trust through his impeccable work ethic. Work harder than everyone else and you will be rewarded, or so he thought. When his company suddenly went bankrupt and left him lost. He trusted them with his entire purpose. His world was shattered.

She was a faithful wife of 22 years. Served her husband with love and adoration. They laughed together and raised beautiful children together. She trusted in his mutual faithfulness, until his affair was exposed. Her world was shattered.

He was athlete of the year. Winning medals and trophies in every sport. He was dedicated and trained his entire life to have a chance to go pro. He trusted his coaches and sports doctor. So it wasn’t just his femur that snapped in half during playoffs, his whole life snapped in half too. His world was shattered.

It is no coincidence that the Bible verse found in the exact middle of the Bible is Psalm 118:8.

Psalm 118:8

It is better to take refuge in the Lord

    than to trust in humans.

At some point or another someone or something WILL let you down. They will break promises or shatter your idea of security/stability. Unfortunately, people fail. You will also fail others who are depending on you. We all fall short.

At some point in your life you will feel like your world is shattered. It is at this point that people often commit suicide or entertain the thoughts of suicide until they become consumed.

However, there IS HOPE!

Psalm 20:7

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,

but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

Do not put your trust in chariots and horses (other people, wealth, success, health, you name it!) All of those things will fail in life at some point or another. But put your trust in the Lord God who will NEVER FAIL you! He will NEVER leave you or forsake you!

So when you feel like your whole world is shattered, turn to the one who is the keeper of your soul and who will comfort you and build you back up out of the deepest pit and put your feet back on solid ground. Put your trust in God and watch as He gives you stability, joy, peace, and love regardless of the situation around you.

Psalm 40:2

He lifted me out of the slimy pit,

    out of the mud and mire;

he set my feet on a rock

and gave me a firm place to stand.
